George Clooney and his wife Amal, purchased a multimillion dollar home in Oxfordshire, England. It is a Beautiful 17th century home on four acres, located on an island on the River Thames. The couple has already begun renovating the property and have already added new amenities, annex and home cinema, as well as a pool, a pool house and a new river house.
Like many couples, they have had some resistance while renovating. The first case was when they presented plans for the new river house. They were asked to decrease its size a bit and install new fencing, to which they agreed and were given the OK.
The couple’s newest obstacle stems from plans for new additions to their security system. The famous actor and his wife, a high profile attorney, want to install 18 additional security cameras. Eight of these cameras would be mounted on poles of various heights, from 4 to 6 meters high (13 to almost 20 feet), while the other 10 would be attached to the home and buildings themselves.
These cameras would have full rotation abilities and be housed in protective domes. The Dunsden Parish Council wants this plan rejected, stating that they would be an eyesore in the village and could infringe on neighbors’ privacy.
They suggested a greater number of cameras, mounted much lower, all of them facing in towards the property. An Oxfordshire Conservation official is fine with the couple’s plan. The final decision will be made by the district council.
Who is right?
I read a lot of different articles covering a wide variety of topics. Some peak my interest and others don’t. Obviously, this one did. I’m sure everyone has an opinion on who is right and who is wrong in this case. I, for one, am on the couple’s side. It is their property and as long as they are not putting up anything obscene, doing anything illegal or hurting anybody, then leave them alone.
Despite what some people may think, everyone has a right to privacy, safety and security in their own home, including movie stars. There have been numerous instances where crazed fans (for lack of a better term) have broken into stars’ homes. Couple this with the paparazzi (some of which have no problem trespassing, and stop at nothing to get a juicy photo!), who can blame them for wanting security?
I know that if I was in their position, I would want to be able to see them coming. Look at it this way, he wants to put 8 small cameras on wooden post, on his property. It’s not like he wants to erect a 15 foot tall wall with razor wire, guard towers and spot lights.
As for the privacy of neighbors, I don’t know how close the nearest neighbor is, but I really don’t think they will be using these cameras to watch their neighbors’ bath or trim trees. Whatever your opinion might be, try to remember that everyone deserves to feel secure and protect their own property and family, even the most popular celebrities.
